The West Indies Women pulled off another last-over thrilling win to keep their campaign alive in the Women's T20 World Cup 2023 with a victory against Pakistan Women in the 16th match on Sunday (February 19). The veteran spin all-rounder Nida Dar took two wickets for 13 runs to contain the West Indies to just 116/6. But the Pakistan batters struggled in the chase after impressive bowling spells from the Windies.

Hayley Matthews won the toss and elected to bat first with the same playing XI that pulled off a last-over thriller against Ireland in their last match. Pakistan made two changes to their playing XI that recorded a 70-run win against Ireland with Sidra Ameen and Omaima Sohail coming in for Javeria Khan and an injured Ayesha Naseem respectively.

The West Indies openers Hayley and Rashada Williams put up a 33-run partnership for the first wicket. Pacer Fatima Sana gave Pakistan an opening in the sixth over with the big wicket of Hayley, who scored 20 off 21 balls. The West Indies batters struggled to play big shots and the Pakistan bowlers bowled well and to their strengths.

Rashada top-scored with 30 off 34 but was unable to get any support from her teammates. Nida bagged two wickets as the West Indies managed to score just 116/6 in 20 overs. Nida's two wickets helped her to become the joint-highest leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 125 wickets alongside West Indian legend Anisa Mohammed.

But Pakistan batters also struggled for runs from the start as the bowlers clearly managed to dominate the game. Hayley gave the West Indies their first success with Muneeba Ali's wicket in the fourth over and off-spinner Karishma Ramharack dismissed Sidra Ameen in the following over.

Nida and captain Bismah Maroof added a 44-run stand for the third wicket but both stars struggled to control the required run rate. Afy Fletcher dismissed Nida in the 14th over who scored 27 off 31 and Hayley took Maroof's crucial wicket in the 18th over.

Experienced batting all-rounder Aliya Riaz smashed 29 off 23 to drag Pakistan closer to the target but the West Indies managed to defend 17 runs in the last over. Aliya Riaz tried her heart out against Shamilia Connel in the last over but Pakistan fell four runs short of the target.

The win boosted the West Indies to the third position in Group 2 table with four points, and they are behind second-placed India who though have the same number of points but have a better net run rate.

The West Indies need India to lose against Ireland by a huge margin in their last group-stage game on Monday in the hope to secure a semi-final spot. Pakistan sit in the fourth position with two points and will face group leaders England in their final Group 2 match on February 21.
