After Kraigg Brathwaite won the toss and opted to bat first, everything has been nightmarish for the home side. India dismissed the West Indies for just 150 on Day 1 of the first Test in Roseau, Dominica and their opening batters have ruled the roost since then. 

The visitors handed a debut to Yashasvi Jaiswal for this Test and gave him the opening slot alongside captain Rohit Sharma. The youngster made full use of the opportunity as he notched up his hundred late on Day 2, at Windsor Park. By virtue of this hundred, Jaiswal joined an illustrious list of Indian legends like Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Lala Amarnath, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and many more, who scored hundreds on Test debut. The southpaw reached the magical three-figure mark in 215 balls.

The new opening pair helped India take the first-innings lead. Skipper Rohit Sharma had a forgettable run with the bat in the Indian Premier League 2023 and also had dismal scores in the World Test Championship final last month. He finally returned to form with a patient century. He brought up his ton with a boundary off debutant, Alick Athanaze.

The Mumbai batter perished off the very next ball as he was caught by wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva. Sharma hit 10 fours and two sixes during his (103 off 221) knock. The marathon first-wicket partnership eventually ended for 229 runs with India already ahead by 79 runs. As a result, this triggered fans to share their views on their brilliant batting on Day 2.
