The man who was dubbed as someone to lookout for at the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League, India’s finest T20I batter at the moment- Suryakumar Yadav- yet again ailed to make an impact for the Mumbai Indians. As Mumbai Indians squared off against Delhi Capitals in their third game of the tournament, Suryakumar was dismissed for a golden duck while chasing the target.
The Mumbai openers started off on a solid note after Delhi Capitals posted a target of 173 runs to chase. The visitors were in a dominant position till the powerplay as Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma kept scoring at a run rate above 10. Ishan’s unfortunate run-out in the eighth over did not add pressure on Mumbai’s batting unit as Rohit then carried the game forward alongside youngster Tilak Varma.
They put up a 68-run partnership for the second wicket before Varma walked back to the pavilion. Suryakumar Yadav joined the MI skipper on the crease, but after forgettable outings in the previous two games, the batter walked off disappointed again after being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar on the very first delivery that he faced in the 16th over.
Suryakumar hurt himself fielding in the first innings, as he was hit on the face while attempting to catch the uppish ball. Just when it felt like Suryakumar would take the catch, the ball hit his face and bounced over the boundary line to eventually end up as a maximum. After dropping two catches in the first innings, Suryakumar registered 0(1) with the bat, adding misery to his campaign.
In Mumbai’s first game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the batter scored 15 runs off 16 deliveries, and was dismissed scoring just one run off two deliveries in his next outing against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. And now having registered his third low-score in the tournament, Suryakumar Yadav is yet to make a mark at the IPL 2023 as his poor run with the bat continued.
