Day 3 of the second Test between the West Indies and Zimbabwe was just as eventful as the earlier contest. The West Indies started the day with the aim of increasing their lead. After the first Test was drawn, both teams wanted to win the second match and also clinch the series.
After a delayed start to Day 3, Zimbabwe bowlers quickly wrapped up the remaining Windies batters. They added just two runs to their overnight total as they took a lead of 177 runs after the end of their first innings. The batting attack of the Chevrons could not muster enough courage to take the game into Day 4.
After scoring 115 runs in the first innings, Zimbabwe were only able to score 173 in the second. Innocent Kaia provided the Chevrons with a good start in the second innings as he played a knock of 43 off 57 balls. Both Tanunurwa Makoni, and Chamu Chibhabha were dismissed early. It was skipper Craig Ervine who played an influential knock of 72 off 105 balls and was at the crease nearly until the end.
In the 48th over, Ervine was dismissed by Gudakesh Motie, who completed his fifer and even went on to take his sixth wicket by dismissing Victor Nyauchi just two balls after Ervine’s wicket. Zimbabwe lost the match by an innings and four runs.
Windies claim the two-match series
After the first game of the series between the West Indies and Zimbabwe was drawn, both teams had everything to play for in the second match. The Windies emerged victorious as Zimbabwe's batting order collapsed in both innings.
Ervine was unable to find a partner to bat with throughout the second innings which was the main reason for the loss. The 37-year-old undoubtedly played a captain’s knock, but it was not enough to propel Zimbabwe to a win. After this win, the Windies will travel to South Africa, where they will face the home team in a two-match Test series followed by a three-match ODI and T20I series each.

If only Zimbabwe batted better in the first innings, they would still chance in this Test. Some of the shots played were shocking to say the least. #ZIMvswi— Karthik Raj (@kartcric) February 14, 2023
