There was hope after India women managed to beat England women in the second T20I to remain in the hunt for the third and final T20I, but those hopes were dashed by England opener Danielle Wyatt as she scored an unbeaten 89 to help England win the match comfortably by eight wickets in Chelmsford.

The diminutive right-hand batter had questions mark over her place in the England squad but Wyatt answered those questions by playing a flawless knock, which came off just 56 balls. She was perfectly supported well by talismanic all-rounder Natalie Sciver who scored 42 as well as picked up one wicket.

The T20I series win has ensured England pocket the multi-format series as well with 10 points as compared to India’s six points. The visitors were a much-improved side in the shortest format, but in the end, England were too good in all the departments of the game.

Smriti Mandhana shines, but that wasn’t enough

Earlier in the day, India’s T20I vice-captain Smriti Mandhana helped India post a competitive total of 153. The southpaw was at her very best and dominated the innings by playing brilliant innings of 70 runs. She lost Shafali Verma early but found good support from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (36), who finally got some much-needed runs under her belt.

England’s premier spinner Sophie Ecclestone showed her class by picking three wickets. She broke the spine of India’s innings by picking vital wickets of Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana, and Richa Ghosh and enabled India to not post a total in excess of 180.

Earlier with the ball in hand, Sciver picked the crucial wicket of Kaur for 36 and allowed England to make a strong comeback with the ball in hand. And later with the bat in hand, she formed a crucial 102-run stand with Wyatt to help England win the match and series with eight balls to spare. From Ravi Ashwin to Dinesh Karthik, there were many eyeballs witnessing the contest and they came up with some interesting tweets.
