India have come from behind to win the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Nagpur. The visitors fought well and were rather ahead at one stage in the 175-run chase when the youngster Mohammad Naim was going all guns blazing. But Deepak Chahar and Shivam Dube struck at the perfect time for the hosts and kept Bangladesh at bay when it mattered the most. The former was exceptional with his variations as Chahar returned with the best figures in T20 Internationals of 6/7 in 3.2 overs.

The chase began extremely slowly for the Tigers as they scored only 18 runs in the first five overs and lost two wickets. Deepak Chahar continued to impress as he struck twice in the third over of the innings to send back Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar. However, Naim counterpunched perfectly attacking India’s best bowler in the series until then, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Mohammad Mithun provided him very good support as Bangladesh collected at least a four or six in every over since the last over of the powerplay. The duo added 98 runs for the third wicket and India were looking literally helpless with Naim toying with the bowling. But not Chahar. The pacer came back for his second in the 13th over and sent back Mithun.

And this is where the match turned on its head. The gamble of giving Shivam Dube the next over worked as he castled the experienced Mushfiqur Rahim for a golden duck. Dube nailed his yorker superbly in his next over to send back the dangerous Naim and also picked Afif Hossain’s wicket to keep India ahead. His figures read 3/30 after bowling four overs as the visitors’ ship started sinking.

Chahal cleaned up Mahmudullah soon but it was Deepak Chahar who hogged the limelight in the end. He was confident having done a great job until then and picked a hat-trick as well to wrap things up as Bangladesh were bowled out for 144 runs in the 20th over. This also turned out to be the first-ever hat-trick for India in the T20Is.

Shreyas Iyer and Rahul propel India to 174

Earlier, after opting to field first, Bangladesh got off to a dream start yet again as Shafiul Islam castled Rohit Sharma for the second time in the series. Shikhar Dhawan’s rough form continued in Nagpur as well though he tried to break the shackles. In the sixth over, India were struggling at 35/2. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer then joined hands to bring the innings back on track.

The duo concentrated on rotating the strike first and after a few overs, Rahul started opening up attacking the opposition bowlers. And he was successful in his quest for runs and some free-flowing were on show as well. Unfortunately, he couldn’t carry on after scoring 52 off 35 deliveries. But by then, Shreyas Iyer was set and he took control of the innings perfectly.

Rishabh Pant joined hands with him but it was all Iyer in the 45-run partnership. The Delhi Capitals skipper also took a liking to Afif Hossain in the 15th over smashing him for three consecutive sixes. In the process, Iyer went on to score 62 off just 33 deliveries which changed the momentum of the innings completely. Manish Pandey turned finisher for India scoring 22 off just 13 balls as India piled on 174 runs for the loss of five wickets after 20 overs.

The score eventually proved to be more than enough thanks to Deepak Chahar’s dream day on the field with the ball. India also sealed the series by 2-1 after losing the opening game in Delhi.
