The Delhi Daredevils registered their second win of the season in some fine fashion at their home venue in Delhi. Playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders, the hosts managed to come up with a very improved performance to be back in the scheme of things in the league this year. Prior to this game, they had lost five out of the six matches that they had played.

A defeat in this particular game against the Kolkata Knight Riders would have pushed the Daredevils an inch closer to being out of the race for the playoffs. However, as things stand after their win against KKR, they are still pretty much in the race for the coveted berths. Talking about the game, it was the visiting skipper Dinesh Karthik who had won the toss and had opted to field first.

The Delhi Daredevils got off to a flying start with Prithvi Shaw and Colin Munro adding 59 runs for the first wicket in just 42 deliveries. The partnership was broken when Shivam Mavi cleaned up Munro on 33. After Munro’s dismissal, Shaw and Iyer rallied along to keep their side in command. While Iyer took his time to settle in, Shaw played his shots freely. Both batsmen notched up their individual fifties in the process.

Shaw was dismissed by Piyush Chawla on 62 that came off just 44 balls. After Shaw’s dismissal, Iyer took the matters in his own hand and played an exceptional knock to lead his side from the front. He found some support from Glenn Maxwell but the DD innings was all about the carnage Iyer brought on the day. The newly appointed skipper hammered an unbeaten 93 off just 40 deliveries with 3 fours and 10 maximums to his name. His efforts propelled the DD total to 219/3 in the stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Kolkata Knight Riders saw a top order collapse that saw three out of their four top order batsmen bagging single digit scores. Narine threatened with his 9-ball 26 but that did not scare the hosts much. The real scare for the hosts was a brief phase in the game when Shubman Gill and Andre Russell had started their counter attack. But a fine over from Amit Mishra put the brakes on the run chase and the ask became a little too much to overhaul for Andre Russell. Delhi Daredevils beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 55 runs.
