The 23rd match of the Caribbean Premier League was an absolute treat to watch. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots hosted the Trinbago Knight Riders for this encounter. Although a largely one-sided game, the kind of hitting prowess on display by Colin Munro and DJ Bravo left the fans on the edge of their seats.

The Trinbago Knight Riders won the match by 46 runs to ascend back to the points table summit. Colin Munro was awarded the ‘Man of the Match’ trophy for his brilliant innings. Despite a loss here, the Patriots continue to be at the fourth position on the points table. However, in the post-match presentation, their skipper Chris Gayle seemed to be confident about them bouncing back and he even seemed positive about lifting the glorious CPL title.

DJ Bravo sets the stage on fire in the last five overs

The Knight Riders were put into bat first by the hosts. Although the team got off to a good start in the innings in terms of the run rate, they lost both their openers inside the powerplay. While Sunil Narine got out for 6 runs, his partner Chris Lynn was dismissed for 18. At this stage, Colin Munro and Brendon McCullum played cautious innings against the run of play. These two added 78 runs together in 63 balls.

After scoring 35 off 33 balls, Brendon McCullum got out on the last ball of the 15th over. The teams’ score was 112/3 at this point in time. There weren’t many expectations of a score above 170 runs. However, Colin Munro decided to shift gears in the last five overs. Darren Bravo, who came in after McCullum’s wicket scored 18 off 8 balls giving the side the much-needed impetus.

The Knight Riders scored 87 runs in the last five overs to take the total to 199 in 20 overs. The 19th over of the game bowled by Alzarri Joseph was the biggest highlight of the game. DJ Bravo smashed Joseph for five consecutive sixes and got 30 runs off that over. While Munro was unbeaten on 76 off 50 deliveries, DJ Bravo just took 11 balls to score 37 runs.

Not the chase the fans wish to watch

We’ve witnessed some mind-boggling chases in this edition of the CPL. However, it wasn’t the case here. The Patriots lost their skipper Chris Gayle for just 9 runs. Except for Evin Lewis who scored 52 off 37 balls, no one else could really contribute. Devon Thomas with 23 runs was the next highest scorer for the team as they lost the game by 46 runs. They only managed to get 153 runs in 20 overs after losing 8 wickets. Anderson Phillip picked three wickets while Fawad Ahmed picked two.

The fans reminisced Yuvraj Singh’s 6 sixes knock after watching DJ Bravo’s 5 consecutive sixes. Twitterati heaped praises on DJ Bravo and Colin Munro for their outrageous knocks. Yet again, team owner Shah Rukh Khan tweeted after the win. He said that it was worth staying awake when the team plays so well. Also, CSK fans were extremely delighted to watch Bravo smash those biggies into the crowd.
