The 14th match of the Mzansi Super League (MSL) was affected by rain interruptions and hence had to be cut short. Durban Heat hosted Paarl Rocks at Kingsmead for this encounter. After the visitors batted for nine overs, the heavens opened up. There wasn’t any further play possible in the first innings. However, fortunately, it wasn’t a washout and the second innings was cut short to 9 overs. Rain favoured Paarl a huge deal as they managed to even win a bonus point.

Henry Davids plays a blistering innings at the top of the order

The cloudy weather prompted the home team to opt to bowl first after winning the toss. It is usually easier chasing in this kind of scenarios. However, a fierce innings from Henry Davids right at the top in the powerplay helped Paarl Rocks get off to a flyer. He scored 46 off 29 balls in an innings that included four fours and three sixes. Aiden Markram played the supporting role and accumulated 29 which came of 20 balls.

Just as the rain began to pour in, Faf du Plessis decided to go for his shots and was unbeaten on 15 off 6 balls. The Paarl Rocks scored 98 for the loss of 2 wickets in 9 overs before it began pelting down hard. Kyle Abbott and Marchant de Lange picked one wicket each.

Bjorn Fortuin dents the hosts right in the first over

The target was revised to 113 runs in 9 overs and the powerplay would last for three overs. However, Bjorn Fortuin dented the hosts’ chances straightaway by picking up both Hashim Amla and Temba Bavuma right in the first over. David Miller, with 22 off 11 balls kept the team briefly interested before Tshepo Moreki accounted for his scalp.

But, after his dismissal, there wasn’t much gas left in the batting order. They scampered to 80/6 at the end of 9 overs and fell short of the target by a massive 32 runs. Moreki also picked two wickets in the innings.

Twitterati was excited to see Bjorn Fortuin follow his 4-wicket haul in the last game with another two wickets in this match. Some predicted that he would get a huge bid at the IPL auction next month. Also, the Paarl Rocks fans were delighted to see their team bag back-to-back wins.
