Twitter Reactions: Fakhar Zaman's blistering century takes Lahore Qalandars home in thrilling clash

Fakhar Zaman smashed a brilliant century to take his side to a stunning victory in PSL 2022 against the Karachi Kings. Earlier in the day, Lahore Qalandars won the toss and opted to bowl first at the National Stadium in Karachi. Skipper Babar Azam and opener Sharjeel Khan had an excellent partnership of 84 for the first wicket and it was the left-hander who scored the bulk of the runs. Sharjeel’s 60 in just 39 deliveries comprised of eight fours and three sixes and it ensured the Karachi Kings were well on track for a big score.

Mohammad Nabi was sent up the order to continue the momentum, but he managed just 15 off 14 deliveries while the middle order could not stick around for a long time. Azam was dismissed in the 15th over for a well made 41 while Joe Clarke remained unbeaten in the end with an 18 ball 24.

In the end, the Karachi Kings could manage just 170 on the board for the loss of 7 wickets but they definitely would have liked a little more. Haris Rauf was the pick of the bowlers for the Lahore Qalandars taking three wickets for just 33 runs and stopping the run flow at the back end of the innings.

Fakhar Zaman’s impressive stint continues

Lahore Qalandars, in reply, started their innings with the early loss of Abdullah Shafique (8) in just the third over while in-form Fakhar Zaman kept finding the boundaries. Kamran Ghulam who came in at three could manage just six off nine deliveries while Mohammad Hafeez showed his experience by forming a partnership alongside Fakhar. The Lahore side was well under the control of the game until Imad Wasim came into the attack and got the better of veteran Hafeez for 24.

Zaman continued his attack from the other end while England’s Samit Patel provided the perfect foil from the other end. The 31-year-old Pakistan international reached his century in the process with some fantabulous striking of the ball and brought down the required run rate significantly.

He was unfortunate to not have hit the winning runs as he was dismissed for 106 in 60 deliveries with just 7 runs needed in as many deliveries. Samit smacked a four on the first ball of the final over and he finished the chase in the next delivery to remain unbeaten on 26 off 18 deliveries.

Meanwhile, with the victory, the Lahore Qalandars have opened their account with two points while the Karachi Kings remain win-less in the three games they have played.
