Brisbane Heat, after a long and refreshing break of nine days, locked horns with Perth Scorchers at the Carrara Oval in Queensland in the ongoing season of Big Bash League. Heat were the favourites to win the match against Scorchers but that was not the case as Mitchell Marsh and Co defeated Heat on the back of some commendable performances given by their players in both batting and bowling. They also grabbed two important points and moved to the sixth position in the points table.

Mitchell Marsh- the Perth Scorchers skipper won the toss and elected to bat and the decision didn’t go down well with his side as openers Josh Inglis (27 runs off 19 balls) and Liam Livingstone (12 runs off 11 balls) struggled to amass runs on a spin-friendly wicket. Heat bowlers were making it difficult for the duo to smash the ball across the park due to which the pressure started building up. And, in the fourth over of the innings spinner, Zahir Khan plumbed Livingstone out as he helped his side in getting the first breakthrough for the match.

Zahir dismissed Inglis in his second over of the innings that left Scorchers struggling at a score of 43 runs. The next batsman Cameron Bancroft took some time to get settled on the wicket and then he started smashing bowlers all across the park. Mitchell Marsh also showed glimpses of his good form as he smashed 26 runs off 19 balls with two sixes and one boundary before his vital innings came to a halt.

Bancroft also played a brilliant knock of 50 runs off 42 balls with two boundaries and a six. He helped his side to post a competitive score of 149 runs in stipulated 20 overs. For Heat, Zahir Khan emerged to be the best bowler as he registered impressive bowling figures of 2/18. He was well supported by his teammate from the other end as Ben Laughlin took two whereas Josh Lalor and Ben Cutting took one wicket each.

Coming on to the chase, the target looked like a cakewalk for the heavy-duty line-up of Brisbane Heat. However, they got off to a worse possible start as they lost their top-order batsman Tom Banton, Max Bryant and Matt Renshaw until the fourth over of the innings. However, all hopes were on Heat skipper Chris Lynn, who is in red-hot form with the bat in the ongoing tournament. But, he also failed to replicate his form and in his attempt to hit a six off Fawad Ahmed, the explosive batsman was caught by Chris Jordan at the long-on.

After that, the bowlers started dominating as they kept on dismissing Heat batsmen at regular intervals. In the end, Heat had to suffer their third defeat of the Big Bash League 2019-20. For Perth Scorchers, Fawad Ahmed turned out to be the best bowler, who took three wickets in his four-over spell. He also helped his side in registering a convincing win against Brisbane Heat by a margin of 40 runs.
