Bangladesh began the second and final Test at Chittagong on a dicey note as they posted a total of 253/6 at stumps on Day 1. Being aware of the nature of the pitch, the ball will start to turn from day 3 if not tomorrow. Bangladesh will want to put up something in deep 300s which will make it really difficult for the Aussies to overhaul.

Earlier in the day, it was captain Mushfiqur Rahim who won the toss as Bangladesh elected to bat first. They made a single change as Shafiul Islam made way for Mominul Haque in the playing XI. The Aussies made a couple of changes too with Steve O’Keefe and Hilton Cartwright replaced Josh Hazlewood and Usman Khawaja respectively.

Batting first, the hosts after a slow start had their best batsman Tamim Iqbal back to the pavilion. Imrul Kayes was also dismissed cheaply leaving Bangladesh reeling at 21/2. Soumya Sarkar and Mominul Haque then tried to hang on to the crease but failed to get going.

Shakib Al Hasan, the star of last game failed to replicate his performance in this innings. At 117/5, it seemed that Australia would have the Bangladesh innings dismantled under 200. However, that was not the case as Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman struck stupendous half centuries to take the team across 200 and place them in a preferable position.

While Sabbir was dismissed towards the end, after a staggering 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket, Mushfiqur continued to bat till stumps alongside Nasir Hossain. The hosts had a significant total of 253/6 on the board by the end of the day.

Nathan Lyon continued to impress as he went on to pick a five-wicket haul. Ashton Agar also bowled well as he got the lone wicket of Shakib. The other bowlers including spinner Steve O’Keefe failed big time as Bangladesh took control of Day 1 of the second test.

Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions during the course of the day:
