We are gradually moving towards the end of the league stage of the LPL 2020. Every match is relevant in its own way and no team can afford to take it easy. The match between the Colombo Kings and the Galle Gladiators was another example of this. While the former had done really well the latter were yet to open their account.

Colombo won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a decent start as the scoreboard read 46-2 at the end of the powerplay. However, they had just lost the wicket of Dinesh Chandimal who had done the bulk of the scoring making 35 out of the 46 runs.

The number three batsman, Daniel Bell-Drummond did a fine job as well. His knock of 44 runs off 36 balls included three boundaries and a solitary six. T de Silva and Isuru Udana provided the finishing impetus as they played crucial cameos to take the team to a score of 171.

Mohammad Amir stars as the Gladiators finally get their first win

Mohammad Amir was yet to show his best in the LPL and he struck when his team needed it the most. He took five wickets conceding only 26 runs in his four overs. He was well partnered by Lakshan Sandakan who himself took three wicket to out the opponent on the back foot.

172 was not going to be toughest score to get, however, it would surely require some good batting. They got off to a terrific start as they scored 64 runs off the first six overs. Ahsan Ali was the star batsman as he scored 56 runs in just 38 balls. He hit nine boundaries and one six in his inning.

It was an all round show with the bat for the Galle side. The top four batsmen contributed to hand them an easy win. They successfully chased down the target in only 17.3 overs. This was their first win of the season and helped them reach the fourth spot in the points table.

While the Gladiators bowlers had done a great job, the Colombo bowlers failed to hit their lengths. They could only take two wickets to hand their opponent a massive eight-wicket win. Amir was announced as the man of the match for his match winning performance with the ball.
