Indian opener Gautam Gambhir made a strong comeback to the national side with a brilliant half century. The timely fifty came in the 2nd innings of the 3rd Test against New Zealand. Gambhir had found his place in the playing eleven following an injury to Shikhar Dhawan. He had started in a blazing fashion in the first innings with a couple of sixes. But missed the chance and fell cheaply for just 29. He more than just covered up for it in the second innings.

India decided not to enforce the follow-on and hence Gambhir got his second turn. He started off in an aggressive manner and never let the tempo go down. He raced past his half century in 54 balls. A double off the bowling of Jimmy Neesham took him to his fifty. It was the second quickest fifty of his Test career.

It was Gambhir’s 22nd half ton in 57 matches. He soon started to trend on Twitter as his fans kept the tweets coming in his favor. Many congratulatory tweets came flooding. While some found happiness in seeing him make a great comeback, it was a moment of humor for a few. A few people did not miss a chance to troll Shikhar Dhawan on the occasion. Dhawan has had a rough run in the last couple of series. His place in the team has constantly been questioned.

With the likes of KL Rahul being in prime form, and now Gambhir making a strong statement for his cause, Dhawan has a lot to worry about. Well, for the moment, it is all Gambhir on the social media. He departed a couple of deliveries after scoring his fifty. He was caught by Martin Guptill off the bowling of Jeetan Patel in his attempt to go over extra cover.
