After a brilliant tie in the first game, both England and Sri Lanka headed on to Birmingham for the second ODI of the series. Captain Angelo Mathews won the toss as Sri Lanka elected to bat first. Suraj Randiv came in for the islanders while England had an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, Sri Lanka didn’t have a great start. Dinesh Chandimal who scored a splendid fifty along with Mathews who chipped in with 44 recovered Sri Lanka. However once the pair was dismissed, SL were further reduced to 191/7. Some excellent batting by Upul Tharanga who scored 54 (49)* and a supportive knock by Randiv took Sri Lanka to a respectable total of 254/7.
English bowlers rose to the occasion and didn’t allow the SL middle order to settle. Adil Rashid was the pick of the bowlers with 2/36 while Liam Plunkett also bowled a fiery spell and got a couple of wickets. David Willey took one wicket but was a bit expensive.
The English openers put up a dominant display with the bat as they crushed the SL bowlers. Both the openers went on to score centuries. While Alex Hales scored a magnificent 133 (110)*, Jason Roy also raced his way to a sumptuous 112 (95)*. The SL bowlers had no clue to stop them. The fielding was also below standard which hurt them dearly.

Sense with Tharanga here but no options too with idiocy of dropping Shanaka. SL will end up with 240 if they mess up from here.
