On what was an action-packed thriller on Day 5 after four dull days of Test cricket, Sri Lanka went on to register a memorable significant 21-run victory against Pakistan. With this win, Sri Lanka lead the series 1-0 with two matches to go. The visitors resumed batting from their overnight score of 69/4. Pacer Mohammed Abbas was in prime form as he got both Kusal Mendis and Suranga Lakmal within the first half hour. The lower order tried to increase the lead before Yasir Shah dismissed Dilruwan Perera and Rangana Herath off consecutive balls.

While Niroshan Dickwella was the lone man standing for the Sri Lankans, wickets kept tumbling at the other end. He stayed not out on 40 runs as Sri Lanka were all out for 138 runs thus setting a target of 136 for Pakistan in 2 sessions. Yasir picked up an impressive five-wicket haul.

The chase didn’t begin well for Pakistan as they were reduced to 7/2 with both Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali back to the pavilion. They continued to falter as Shan Masood, Babar Azam and Asad Shafiq fell like a pack of cards, leaving Pakistan reeling at 36/5.

Skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed and Haris Sohail tried to rescue Pakistan but both were dismissed later. They were eventually all out for 138 runs. Left-arm spinner Herath went on to have amazing figures of 6/43. As for Perera, he got three wickets.

There was a stage where Dilruwan Perera got the final wicket as the Sri Lankans started celebrating. However, they had to stop after the replays suggested it was a no ball. Herath got the last wicket as he picked up his 400th Test wicket as his team sealed the game by 21 runs.

Twitter was quite entertained with the drama that unfolded on the last day of the game in what had been a dull Test match. In the end, it was an exciting finish for the Sri Lankan team as everyone lauded them for bowling their hearts out.
