The Supernovas started the Women’s T20 Challenge with a loss against the Trailblazers. Nevertheless, the Harmanpreet Kaur-captained team beat the Velocity in the last league game to progress to the Final. Today, they defeated the Velocity for the second time by four wickets and won the championship in Jaipur. The match turned to be an absolute cliffhanger and in the end, Kaur’s knock made all the difference.

Sushma and Kerr buckle down

The Supernovas, after winning the toss and electing to field first, got off to a stupendous start. Lea Tahuhu sent back Hayley Matthews for a two-ball duck. In the next over, Anuja Patil nipped out the dangerous Danielle Wyatt for a five-ball duck. Shefali Verma smacked two fours but mistimed one off Tahuhu. Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy hit two boundaries each and perished thereafter.

With the score at 37/5 in the eighth over, the Supernovas’ innings was in total shambles. However, Amelia Kerr and Sushma Verma didn’t give up the ghost and cobbled together a partnership of 71 runs off 65 balls. Poonam Yadav accounted for Kerr’s wicket after the White Ferns batswoman scored 36 off 38 with four fours. Sushma remained not out on 40 off 32 and guided the Supernovas to 121 in 20 overs.

Harmanpreet too hot to handle for Velocity

The beginning wasn’t a great one for the Velocity as Chamari Athapaththu succumbed to run-out in the second over. A strong throw from Ekta Bisht accounted for her wicket. Priya Punia played some gorgeous strokes to keep the scoreboard moving. Jemimah Rodrigues hit three fours but gave a simple caught and bowled to Kerr after getting 22 off 25 balls. In the last 10 overs, the Velocity needed 69 runs.

Punia got 29 off 31 and got out to a rash stroke off Devika Vaidya. Jahanara Alam rattled Natalie Sciver’s woodwork to bring the match in the balance. The Bangladesh speedster roared and castled Sophie Devine to pick up her second wicket. The 26-year-old seamer finished with impressive figures of 4-0-21-2. In the last four overs, the Supernovas needed 32 runs.

With Harmanpreet Kaur in the middle, the Supernovas looked like the favourites. The Punjaban hammered Vaidya for two fours and got the target down to 10. She accomplished her fifty off 34 balls. Kerr got her prized wicket in the last over. At that time, the Supernovas still needed seven off four balls. Radha Yadav held her nerve and took her team over the line in the last ball.

Here is how Twitter praised Harman for her superlative knock and the Supernovas for the win:
