The Pakistan side was humiliated on the fourth day as they were bowled out for just 186, and lost the second Test by an innings and 176 runs. No Pakistan batsman could even score 50 runs in the second innings as the Kiwi pacers proved too good for them. With this crushing victory, New Zealand have wrapped up the series 2-0 and consolidated their position as the No.1 ranked Test side in the world.

The biggest positive of this summer for New Zealand has been Kyle Jamieson. The tall pacer once again wreaked havoc and picked up 6 Pakistan wickets in the second innings as the visitors failed to find answers to the questions posed by the fast bowling beast. And, this win wraps up a perfect Test summer for New Zealand, as they have won all the four Tests that they have played this season, and won three of them by an innings.

And of course, Kane Williamson will relish the way he has batted this summer. The New Zealand batting legend’s scores in his last 4 Test innings read 251,129, 21 and 238. On the other hand, Pakistan have a lot of work to be done, and should iron out the chinks in their armor before they face South Africa in their next Test series in a couple of weeks.

Pakistan crumble, yet again

The Pakistan side once again failed to show any resistance with the willow. Resuming the day at 8/1, the visitors lost their first wicket of the morning in the fifth over of the day, with Trent Boult removing Mohammad Abbas. The nightwatchman edged Boult into the hands of BJ Watling to give the Kiwis the first breakthrough of the day.

Abid Ali yet again got a start, but failed to convert it into a big one. The opener’s eyes lit up when Jamieson bowled a full delivery. The right-hander went for the drive, and substitute fielder Will Young took a stunning catch at point. Abid couldn’t believe his luck. Everything that could go against Pakistan was actually going against them.

Haris Sohail’s miserable series continued, as he was dismissed cheaply yet again. The left-hander was tentative at the crease, and nicked Jamieson into the hands of keeper Watling. Sohail’s scores in this series read 3,9,1 and 15. Azhar Ali was the next man to go and was undone by an awkward bouncer by Jamieson. The veteran right-hander was hurried for pace, tried to parry the delivery of his ribs, but only managed to nick the ball to BJ Watling behind the stumps.

Skipper Mohammad Rizwan was cleaned up through the gate by an inswinger from the red-hot Jamieson. That gave the Kiwi pacer his fifth wicket of the innings, and the tenth of the match. Fawad Alam was the next man to depart, as he edged Boult into the safe bucket-like hands of Ross Taylor at slip. Jamieson then took his sixth wicket of the innings when he induced an edge from Faheem Ashraf. The left-hander went for the drive, and Watling was again in the thick of things, pouching the offering.

Kane Williamson then took his first Test scalp in five long years, as Shaheen Afridi top-edged him into the hands of Ross Taylor. The last rites were completed as Trent Boult took the wicket of debutant Zafar Gohar to complete Pakistan’s misery.

This series has made one thing clear though. It would be a Herculean task for any side to beat New Zealand in a Test match on home soil.
