The 4th ODI wasn’t quite like the other games of the series, for the first time Australia were batting first and India had the opportunity to chase; something they have enjoyed doing. The Indian top order was once again up for the task and they had a special start before Rohit Sharma got out. Things didn’t change thereafter as Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli built superlative 212-run partnership and in the process both the batsmen also got to their hundreds.

Virat hit the 25th ODI hundred of his career while it was the 9th of Dhawan’s. The left-hander also got to his 3000 ODI runs in the process. At one time, it looked like it was going to be a clean win for the Indian team with 9 wickets in hand and 277 runs on the board but once Dhawan got out for 126 and MS Dhoni departed for a duck things just fell apart. The balls that were landing in safe zones went straight to fielders. Virat Kohli found Steve Smith on 106; Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Rishi Dhawan hit a four and the next ball in the air.

Suddenly Australia had the dominating edge in the game and once they taste blood it isn’t often that they lose the hold. Ravindra Jadeja was there at the non-strikers end but couldn’t do the job for India while he lost all his partners. Pressure had the better of the inexperienced Indian line-up it was MS Dhoni’s game to finish, for the reputation and game he has but he couldn’t and in the end, India didn’t.
