For a change Australian skipper Steve Smith won the toss and decided to bat first on a different looking pitch at the Manuka Oval, Canberra. The pitch had nothing for the quicks but with visible cracks will definitely assist the slower bowlers and that is why they have off-spinner Nathan Lyon in the squad. Original Australian opening pair of David Warner and Aaron Finch started the innings in their typical style ruling over the bowlers.

Dhoni gave the ball to Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar but both of them went for plenty and soon Ishant Sharma was in the attack, he bowled well but runs kept coming for the Aussies. Warner back from a break was again at his best striking it all around the park. Finch was relatively slower but did his job. Indian finally got something to cheer about when Ishant Sharma bowled Warner on 93, it was in the 30th over and on the score of 187 that Australia lost a wicket. Finch carried on from there and soon got to his hundred, the 7th of his career.

Bowlers did make a comeback there on and slowed down the run-flow and with that there were a few wickets coming their way as well. Skipper Smith enjoyed batting against his favorite bowling and scored another half-century before getting out. Mitchell Marsh who came in at 3 got 33. But since the runs were dried up, Australia moved towards 320 from a point where 400 looked possible. Glenn Maxwell once again got into the act and smoked quite a few to propel Australia to 348 in 50 overs. He got out on the last ball but not before scoring 41 off 20, he hit 6 fours and a six in his cameo.

The Indian bowlers looked helpless on a wicket that had little love for them. Here is how Twitter reacted to Indian bowling and Aussie batting in the first part of the game.
