In an enthralling day of Test cricket, the Kanpur stadium also witnessed some milestones by the Indian brigade. While Rohit Sharma completed 1000 runs in Test cricket, Ashwin reached 200 wickets and became the second fastest to achieve the feat.
The match began with India resuming from their overnight score of 159/1. The Kiwi spinners bowled tightly in the beginning and accounted for 3 wickets in the first session. While Vijay and Pujara got out scoring sensational half centuries, Kohli had another poor outing with the bat.
Rahane looked on to hang for a while before edging one to slip. Rohit Sharma followed up with a stylish knock to score his first fifty in almost a year. On the other hand, Jadeja who was promoted, failed to disappoint with a scintillating quick fire 50 which had 3 sixes.
The NZ bowlers had a tough time keeping Rohit and Jadeja at their toes. Kohli declared soon after both batsmen put up a 100 run partnership at some splendid pace. The visitors were set with a daunting task of chasing 434 for victory in four sessions.
On a pitch that had turn, it was never going to be easy with the likes of Ashwin and Jadeja to make life difficult for the batsmen. Ashwin struck twice in an over as he left the Kiwis reeling at 3/2. Williamson tried to battle out but ended up getting trapped by Ashwin.

Jadeja who went wicketless was also magnificent as he bowled 7 maidens on the trot. Yadav effected a great run out as Taylor committed a brainfade. Overall it was another day which truly belonged to India as NZ ended their day at 93/4.
Twitter entertained on an eventful evening with some hilarious, statistical and insightful tweets. While Ashwin was hauled for his bowling effort, Rohit Sharma too finally garnered praise in the traditional format. Ross Taylor got trolled for messing up while Jadeja managed to split Twitter into laughter with his celebration.
Here are some of the best tweets during the course of the game:

The 200th was inevitable. The question is how fast will Ashwin be to 300? There is a real possibility he could get there this season

Like world history, this test match can also be divided into 2 halves – Before Rain and After Rain. NZ got screwed in the after rain period

Ashwin becomes the 2nd fastest to take 200 wickets in Tests. The fastest was Inzamam Ul Haq, who took wickets of non-strikers by run outs.
