Twitter Reactions: India tame lame Sri Lanka for 135

Sri Lanka eventually managed 135/7 in their quota of overs and shouldn’t be really tough for India considering how they’ve played thus far in the series.

You know it is a dead rubber when a bowler doesn’t celebrate a wicket; a fielder catches the ball and just throws it back. The Sri Lankan batsmen had a great opportunity to put up a big total on the board after being asked to bat first with no pressure of the scoring rate for the first time this series. But they weren’t quite up for it.

The Wankhede was expected to be a bowler’s graveyard just like Indore and skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to give his bowlers a chance to bowl early in the game. India handed Washington Sundar his debut and brought back pacer Mohammed Siraj in the eleven. Jaydev Unadkat who has been very successful in the T20I series once again picked an early wicket, Niroshan Dickwella got out to the same bowler for the third time in as many matches.

Irrespective of what the conditions said, the Indian bowlers were in charge and the Sri Lankans struggled. Kusal Perera who put up a brilliant show in the previous match though in a losing cause had a lot of expectations on him, but was Sundar’s maiden T20I wicket for just 4.

Samarawickrama did hit a few along with Asela Gunaratne as the Wankhede crowd cheered each run they scored considering their team would have that much more time to spend in the middle. But all-rounder Hardik Pandya accounted for both their wickets and it was almost curtains on the Lankan batting.

Danushka Gunathilaka and Thisara Perera got out cheap to Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj respectively. Towards the end as the Indian bowlers probably let their guard down and Siraj had another rough day in the office Dasun Shanaka and Akila Dhananjaya scored 29 and 11 respectively. The 22-year-old was the most expensive among the Indians and went for 45 in his 4 overs while the second most was 26 by Yadav.

Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers returning with figures of 2/15. Sri Lanka eventually managed 135/7 in their quota of overs and shouldn’t be really tough for India considering how they’ve played thus far in the series.

Here is how Twitterati reacted during the course of a rather boring first inning:
