India are off to a flying start in the World Test Championship courtesy a resounding win over the Windies in Antigua. After some amazing work with the willow from Ajinkya Rahane and youngster Hanuma Vihari, Jasprit Bumrah’s terrorizing spell of bowling demolished the Windies quite brutally on Sunday.
The day began on a positive note for the Caribbean side, with Roston Chase dismissing Virat Kohli early in the innings. But Ajinkya Rahane’s concentration was pretty much intact and he repaid the faith shown by Virat Kohli with another gem of a knock. Hanuma Vihari chipped in with a crucial knock as well, one which could do a world of good for the 25-year-old.
Rahane took the backseat for the major part in this partnership as Vihari went after the bowlers. He played some lovely attacking shots against the spinners and kept the scorecard ticking. Rahane completed a brilliant hundred but was soon dismissed after a 135-run stand with Vihari.
Vihari continued the onslaught for a little longer before he fell 7 runs short of a well-deserved hundred. With his dismissal, India declared their innings at 343/7 in 112.3 overs. Rahane and Vihari did a brilliant job in the middle order to snatch the game away from the hosts, who were outplayed later on by a classy bowling rendition.
Boom boom Bumrah fires again!
With every passing game, Jasprit Bumrah‘s importance in the team is sky-rocketing at a rapid pace. Although the game was already out of Windies’ hand with the target being 419 runs to get, Jasprit Bumrah made a mockery of their batting lineup, picking up wickets at regular intervals for the side.
Wickets tumbled like a pack of cards as Ishant Sharma and Bumrah kept attacking the timber with ferocity. Bumrah removed both openers and did the bulk of the damage in the middle order whilst Ishant chipped in with a few important scalps. The Windies were dead and buried in a matter of few overs at 37/7.
Bumrah completed his five-fer and was made to sit back for a while. Kemar Roach fought well to ensure their side got to three digits but the resistance didn’t last long. Windies got bowled out for just 100 runs, their lowest ever Test score against India.

In Test cricket history only 11 bowlers have the distinction of claiming a five or more wicket haul in an innings, while conceding less than 10 runs – four are from Australia, two each from Eng/SAf/WI and now one from India (Jasprit Bumrah)#IndvWI #IndvsWI #WIvInd
