If the last Test match ending within 4 days was poor for Sri Lanka, then this was even worse as the hosts failed to take this even beyond the second session of Day 3. With this win, India have completed a 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka in their own backyard.

Resuming from their overnight score of 19/1, the Lankan batting continued to falter. Ravichandran Ashwin drew the first blood as he got the better of opener Dimuth Karunaratne. Mohammed Shami who bowled a wonderful session of swing had Malinda Pushpakumara and Kusal Mendis heading back to the pavilion.

With Sri Lanka left reeling at 39/4, Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews tried to survive a lost battle for the islanders. However, it didn’t last long as Kuldeep Yadav provided India with the much needed breakthrough. Niroshan Dickwella tried to hang on at the crease for sometime but failed to make any difference.

The lower order collapsed in no time as Sri Lanka were all out for 181 runs, failing to cross the deficit in two attempts. India went on to register an absolutely one sided victory by an innings and 171 runs. Ashwin was the pick amongst the bowlers with 4 wickets while Shami also got three wickets. Yadav managed to grab a couple of wickets while Kuldeep got the lone wicket of Chandimal.

Hardik Pandya was deservingly rewarded the man of the match for a stupendous 100 and also some good bowling. On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan won the man of the series for his magnificent run with the bat. He aggregated 358 runs in the series with two outstanding centuries. With this win, the test series concluded with the limited overs action set to begin from Sunday.
