India will make its 500th Test appearance when they lock horns with New Zealand in the opening Test of the three-match Test series at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur.
It all started in the year 1932 when the India team led by Col. CK Nayudu travelled to England to play their first ever Test series. India’s Test journey did not start well as they lost the game by nine wickets.
From starting out as an inferior team to becoming one of the powerhouses of the game, it has been a long fascinating journey. Cricket fans have had many memories to cherish. The 500th test is a special occasion for all the Indian fans.
The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) made sure that the auspicious day is marked by special events prior to the start of the match.
The board decided to bring all the former skipper of the India together and felicitated them. BCCI president Anurag Thakur, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Uttar Pradesh Cricket association president Rajiv Shukla were present at the podium to felicitate all the players.
India’s first World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Krishnamachari Srikanth, Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni were among the many others which were with shawl and memento.
Virat Kohli, the current test skipper, who will be leading India on the auspicious occasion was also treated in the same manner. Many current and former cricketers also expressed their happiness on Twitter and congratulated the team.
