Team India is currently playing the historic Day-Night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens. It is the first-ever pink-ball game for both the sides in international cricket. The inauguration of the landmark game was attended by the galaxy of stars. But, the player that hogged the spotlight on Day 1 of the second Test was the Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma.

In the first couple of overs, Ishant found it difficult to adjust with the pink ball but as soon as he got his line and length, the Bangladesh batters were left struggling against him and gave away their wickets. He bowled at his best on the first day of the game.

Tigers were expected to give some good performances following their defeat in Indore but that was not the case. They started off well with the game and didn’t lose a single wicket in the first seven overs. However, Ishant Sharma took his first wicket of Imrul Kayes and helped the hosts to get their first breakthrough of the day. At that moment, nobody knew that the Indian pacer might end up getting a five-wicket haul.

Ishant Sharma rolls out with his first five-wicket haul since 2007 in home conditions

The second dismissal of Ishant came in the 19th over of the match when Saha took an amazing catch of Mahmudullah behind the wickets diving to his right. It was then followed by the wickets of Nayeem Hassan, Ebadat Hossain, who got bowled out on astonishing deliveries.

And, his wait to take his first five-wicket haul since 2007 at home came to an end when Pujara took a brilliant catch at short mid-wicket off Mehidy Hasan. He ended up registering some amazing bowling figures of 12-4-22-5 towards the end of Bangladesh innings.

It was Ishant’s 10th five-wicket haul of his Test career that helped Team India to dismiss Bangladesh for a paltry 106 on the opening day of the historic second Test in Kolkata. He also became the first Indian bowler to take a five-wicket haul in the pink-ball game

The Tigers were left skittled in front of the pacers and were finding it way too difficult to adjust with the behaviour of the pink ball. In the whole innings of Bangladesh, only one over was bowled by a spinner i.e- Ravindra Jadeja. However, the Day 1 totally went into the courtyard the Indian bowlers. Also, Umesh Yadav finished with 3 for 29 in seven overs and Mohammed Shami 2 for 36.

And, after a brilliant display of Ishant Sharma on Day 1, the Twitter went busy hailing his amazing performance against Bangladesh.
