The St Lucia Stars hosted the Jamaica Tallawahs for the second game of the double-header on the weekend. The visitors, after getting to a good start in the tournament by winning three games in a row, went downhill and lost the next three games. However, they made a comeback in this encounter against the Starts courtesy a complete team effort.

With another loss here, the St Lucia Stars are nearly out of the race for the playoffs. The team has already played eight of its ten games and managed to win only two games. Rovman Powell was declared the ‘Man of the Match’ in for his sensational batting effort in which he scored 64 runs off just 37 balls.

Going with a bowler short proved to be costly for the Stars

In this game, the St Lucia Stars made oneย change to their playing XI. Mark Chapman was roped in place of Odean Smith. Andre Russell, after winning the toss, opted to bat first. Glenn Phillips got the team off to an ideal start and started the innings off with a boundary. He scored a brisk 17 off 8 balls. His partner Johnson Charles, after being dismissed off a no-ball made the most of the retrieval and played a few shots before he got out.

The best innings came from the willow of Rovman Powell. He smashed 64 off 37 balls including 5 sixes and was hitting the ball very sweetly. He helped push the run rate up. Andre Russell came up the batting order this time but could only score 5 runs. David Miller, after failing terribly in the last game came out with a positive intent and scored 32 off 13 balls as the Jamaicans finished with 204 runs in 20 overs.

The Jamaica Tallawahs hold onto the crucial moments

St Lucia Stars did not have an ideal start to the chase. Chapman, who was roped into the XI got out in the first over itself after scoring 4 runs. Rahkeem Cornwall failed yet again and the other opener Andre Fletcher scored 21 off 24 balls. Losing wickets and scoring runs at a slow pace in the powerplay didn’t help the teams’ cause. However, David Warner who continued to bat at No 4 in this game as well provided the side with some hope.

The banned Aussie cricketer looked to be in great touch and scored 42 off just 26 deliveries. However, he threw his wicket away by trying to play an unnecessary slog sweep. Soon after his dismissal, Kieron Pollard who was hitting the ball well followed him back to the pavilion after being dismissed off a brilliant yorker by his counterpart Russell. The skipper scored 46 off 27 balls. Although Lendl Simmons, with 45 off 26 balls tried hard at the end, it was a bit too much of an asking for him as the Stars fell short of the target by 21 runs.

Twitterati sympathised for the Stars after this loss. They were also not impressed with David Warner throwing his wicket away after having got to a good start. Also, tweeple lauded Rovman Powell and Andre Russell for their efforts.
