Khulna Titans lost four matches on the trot and needed to pull a rabbit out of the hat to make a comeback in the BPL. The team, captained by Mahmudullah, made a stupendous comeback and won their match against Rajshahi Kings by 25 runs in the first contest of today’s doubleheader at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. In the meantime, Rajshahi lost their third match of the tournament.
Khulna batting crumble
On a slow wicket, Khulna elected to bat first and could manage only 128 for nine. All three of Jahurul Islam, Junaid Siddique and Dawid Malan promised with knocks of 13, 14 and 15 respectively. Unfortunately, even as Mehidy Hasan accounted for the wickets of Siddique and Malan, pacer Isuru Udana got rid of Jahurul. Mahmudullah, Nazmul Hossain and Carlos Brathwaite perished cheaply.
However, a couple of useful knocks from Ariful Haque and Dawid Wiese made sure that the Titans post a respectable score. While Ariful notched 26 from 27 balls, Wiese contributed with 13 runs. For Rajshahi, Udana, Mehidy and left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny got a couple of wickets each. Mustafizur Rahman was again economical, having given away 21 runs in four overs while dismissing Ariful in the last over.
Kings stumble under pressure
Junaid Khan removed Laurie Evans in the first over as the Kings got off to a horrendous start. Mehidy Hasan flung his willow to score 23 runs from 16 balls with two fours and one six. Nevertheless, from 30-1, Rajshahi slumped to 55-6 in a space of approximately six overs. Mehidy was nipped out by Taijul Islam, who turned out to be the most successful Kings’ bowler with three wickets, giving away 10 runs.
Mahmudullah also chipped in with the prized scalps of Mominul Haque and Zakir Hasan. By the end of the 15th over, the match was virtually all over bar the shouting. Sunny and Kamrul Islam Rabbi found the boundary a few times, but couldn’t help the Kings arrest their slump. Pakistan speedster Junaid Khan was impressive as well with three wickets, also including the ones of Christian Jonker and Sunny.
