David Miller’s superb cameo of 23* off 13 deliveries helped South Africa beat Sri Lanka with 4 wickets and 1 ball to spare. Set a target of 143 for victory, the South African side lost both its openers with the scorecard reading 26.

Rassie van der Dussen and skipper Temba Bavuma stitched together a 23-run stand for the 3rd wicket. But, van der Dussen was run out with the South African scorecard reading 49.

Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma then forged a sedate 47-run stand for the 4th wicket to keep South Africa in the hunt. Markram was cleaned up by Wanindu Hasaranga off the last ball of the 15th over.

The 18th over bowled by Wanindu Hasaranga created tension in the South African camp. Hasaranga first removed Temba Bavuma and followed that up by scalping the wicket of Dwaine Pretorius off the next delivery.

This completed Hasaranga’s hat trick (he had scalped a wicket off the last ball of his previous over). Dushmantha Chameera also picked up a couple of wickets for Sri Lanka as well. However, David Miller kept his cool to help South Africa past the line.

Pathum Nissanka’s 72 helps Sri Lanka to 142

Pathum Nissanka single-handedly helped the Sri Lankan side post a total of 142 in their allotted 20 overs. The right-hander scored a superb 72 off 58 deliveries at the top of the order, and his innings was studded with 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Apart from Nissanka, Charith Asalanka scored a 14-ball 21. All the other Sri Lankan batsmen cut a sorry figure. Apart from Nissanka and Asalanka, not even a single Sri Lankan willow wielder could cross the 20-run mark. Also, 8 Sri Lankan batsmen could not even score in double digits.

With the ball, Tabraiz Shamsi and Dwaine Pretorius were outstanding for the Proteas. Both Shamsi and Pretorius scalped 3 wickets each to push the Sri Lankan side onto the back foot.
