The Rising Pune Supergiants took on the Kings XI Punjab in a humdinger of a contest at Mohali. Captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first. RPS made three changes as they brought in Irfan Pathan, Thisara Perera and Ankit Sharma. Pune had Kyle Abbott coming in for Mitchell Johnson.
While Ajinkya Rahane got out early, Faf du Plessis played another splendid innings scoring 67 runs from 53 balls. Smith also showed some intent with a 26-ball 38. However the Pune batting lineup failed to inspire any confidence as they managed to reach an under par 152/7 in their quota of 20 overs.
For KXIP, Mohit and Sandeep Sharma were the pick of the bowlers picking 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Overall everyone bowled well as they restricted the run flow in the Pune innings.
Kings openers Murali Vijay and Manan Vohra provided a perfect start for Punjab as they raced their way to 97 runs for the first wicket within 13 overs. While Vijay hit 53 (49), Vohra continued his impressive form in the IPL this year with a quickfire 51 from just 33 balls.
But as soon as the openers got out, there were some hiccups for Kings XI Punjab as they lost 4 wickets in quick succession. However, Maxwell batted elegantly with a brilliant 32 not out from 14 balls taking KXIP home with 6 wickets and 8 balls to spare.
Twitter kept everyone entertained with some superb tweets, right from lauding du Plessis and Murugan Ashwin to trolling the senior Ashwin and Perera. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the RPS-KXIP game:

Great batting line up but ordinary bowling
MS Dhoni would feel like he is leading the Indian team again #IPL— Shubh AggarWall (@shubh_chintak) April 17, 2016
Maxwell onslaught brutal, vital, capital. Shows why he's indispensable. Punjab get a start. But Pune appear to have hit unexpected roadblock

With bowlers like Ishant, Pathan& Perera. RPS looking 100-120 runs short in this match.#KXIPvRPS

Finch and duPlesis are just proving that not only Indians but foreigners can also score in IPL and not in Internatonal matches #KXIPvRPS

Smith's demotion in the batting order meant Dhoni not getting enough time to bat…#KXIP in with a real chance. #KXIPvRPS

Sandeep is not a tall bowler, hence lack of bounce & accuracy created problems for Pune batsmen who took one risk too many #KXIPvRPS

Always dread the outcome when Ashwin has to run a second run.#KXIPvRPS

A disastrous RPS inns comes to an end. They've now successfully made a mess of it two times in a row. Full credit to KXIP to keep Faf in!
