After the big jolt in the first qualifier, the Trinbago Knight Riders were seeking the act of redemption in the second qualifier against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Knights went into this game as the favourites but the Patriots were not far away as things tend to get quite complicated in T20 cricket. Although this game wasn’t as close as the other playoff games, it just had enough entertainment in it to have the fans’ fingers crossed.

The track for this game wasn’t a paradise for the batsmen. They had to put in the hard strides to score those runs. It was the Knights’ batsmen who did better on the day. Hence, they ended up winning this important encounter by 20 runs. Fawad Ahmed, for an exceptional bowling spell was named the ‘Man of the Match’. The Knights will be now facing the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the finals of the tournament.

McCullum, DJ Bravo take Knights to a respectable total

Yet again, the Trinbago Knight Riders lost the toss and were put into bat first. Colin Ingram opened the innings alongside Brendon McCullum in this encounter. While the former failed to deliver, the latter played a brilliant innings of 43 which came off just 26 balls. The pitch wasn’t an easy one to bat on. The slower balls worked for the pace bowlers while the spinners turned the ball miles.

Hence, as the result, Colin Munro and Denesh Ramdin crawled to 29 off 31 balls and 27 off 25 balls respectively. The case with Darren Bravo was also similar as he struggled to find his way to 20 off 18 balls. When the team was struggling at 118/4 after 17 overs, DJ Bravo decided to launch his assault to the bowlers. He took just 8 balls to put on 24 runs as the team scored 47 runs off the last three overs. After 20 overs, the ended with 165 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

Batting first ends up being an advantage for the hosts

Since they have batted first on this difficult track, it helped the Trinbago Knight Riders’ bowlers get a fair idea about the pitch. They worked their variations brilliantly which never allowed St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to settle in. Ali Khan dismissed the opposition skipper Chris Gayle for a duck right in the first over of the game. Rassie van der Dussen and Evin Lewis took the long walk back after scoring 14 and 4 runs respectively.

Although Devon Thomas with 35 off 26 balls and Brandon King with 33 off 22 balls tried hard, the asking rate was always climbing up which put immense pressure on them. By picking two wickets in the 16th over, Fawad Ahmed ensured that the game was inclined towards his side. Although the visitors were down to 98/7, there was another twist in the tale with a brilliant 32 off 19 from Fabian Allen. However, as 27 runs were required off the last over, Kevon Cooper bowled a dream over. He gave away just 6 runs and helped his team make it to the final.

Twitterati was at ease to see the Knights put up this sort of a show after the heartbreaking loss in the first qualifier. Ali Khan and Fawad Ahmed were praised for their brilliant bowling display while DJ Bravo was trolled for failing with the bat yet again. Bollywood Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan seemed to delighted with the win and shared his happiness on Twitter.
