After rolling over Dhaka Dynamites, Rajshahi Kings have now managed to defeat Comilla Victorians at the Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka by 38 runs. The pitch turned out to be a belter, however, the Kings chipped in with regular wickets to ensure that they dominate their opponents. Mehidy Hasan’s team also moved to the third position of the points table in this Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Evans wrecks havoc

The Victorians got off to a stupendous start after winning the toss as they reduced the Kings to 28 for three in the seventh over. Even as off-spinner Mahedi Hasan rattled Shahriar Nafees’ woodwork, left-armer Liam Dawson accounted for the wickets of opposition captain Mehidy Hasan and Marshall Ayub respectively. Thereafter, Laurie Evans, who made a comeback, and Ryan ten Doeschate took charge.

Both didn’t die wondering and stepped on the accelerator and put on an unbeaten stand of 148 runs in 83 balls. Evans was the more aggressive partner in the stand and he became the first batsman to notch a century in this BPL. He accomplished the feat in 61 balls and his knock of 104 was laced with nine boundaries and six sixes. Ten Doeschate also turned up with a handy 59 with two fours and three sixes.

Kings prevail in thriller

Comilla started the run-chase steadily courtesy of a 37-run stand of 34 balls. Kamrul Islam Rabbi struck first blood, dismissing Tamim for 25. Anamul also perished after scoring 26 from 23. In the 11th over, Arafat Sunny nipped out Shamsur Rahman. Ziaur Rahman threatened with a few mighty blows, but he was removed by Ten Doeschate. Qais Ahmed picked up the fifth wicket in the form of Imrul Kayes.

The Afghan tweaker delivered the blow with the wicket of Thisara Perera, who bagged a golden duck. Shahid Afridi threw the kitchen sink at everything to notch 19 with one four and two sixes and he became Kamrul’s second wicket. A couple of balls later, the speedster got rid of Liam Dawson and the dismissal virtually pulled the curtains down on the encounter. The Victorians were shot out for 138.
