Gujarat Titans became the first team to officially qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs as they thrashed fellow new team Lucknow Super Giants by 62 runs. It was a low-scoring battle where batters of both sides endured a hard time. LSG looked on command at the halfway mark, having restricted the Titans to a paltry-looking score. However, Rashid Khan and other GT bowlers came to the party and spoiled LSG’s party.

Earlier in the game, Gujarat Titans won the toss and opted to bat at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. They didn’t get off to a strong start as in-form opener Wriddhiman Saha perished for five. While Shubman Gill held one end, he kept running out of partners. LSG’s new-ball bowlers Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan were spot on as GT found themselves in a spot of bother.

Despite all this, Gill didn’t put his guards down and brought up his fourth half-century of the season. He joined forces with David Miller and the duo added 52 runs for the fourth wicket. However, LSG’s scoring rate was still on the lower side. The late impetus was provided by Rahul Tewatia, who scored a handy 16-ball 22. Gill also walked back unbeaten on 63 as GT posted a respectable 144/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Rashid Khan ran through LSG’s batting order

In reply, LSG lost wickets at regular intervals and never really got going. Mohammed Shami and Yash Dayal were brilliant with the new ball as openers Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul perished for 11 and eight runs respectively. While Deepak Hooda showed some fight and held his ground, he received no support whatsoever from the other end.

The pacers passed over the baton to Rashid Khan in the middle overs and the leg-spinner did what he does the best. He ran through LSG’s middle and lower order, claiming a match-winning four-wicket haul. As a result, LSG were bundled out for just 82 runs and lost the contest by 62 runs.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitter reacted to GT’s triumph:
