Melbourne Stars have been immediately benefitted from the return of their star players in the Big Bash League (BBL). They defeated the Renegades to win the Melbourne derby at the Docklands Stadium. With this victory, they also stopped their three-match losing streak thanks to Marcus Stoinis who single-handedly won the game for them with his all-round effort. The all-rounder must be feeling gutted with the fact that he couldn’t strike such form in Australian colours against India.

Stoinis opened the innings for the Stars in this game and rolled along despite losing Ben Dunk in the very first over. The tricky chase of 122 runs turned even difficult with the likes of Peter Handscomb and Glenn Maxwell getting out early. At 35/3 in the seventh over, the game was hanging in the balance and Stoinis was the key batsman. He didn’t disappoint by perfectly anchoring the innings.

Nic Maddinson struggled his way to 19 but stitched 63-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Stoinis. But just when things were getting comfortable for the Stars, Richardson struck to take it down the wire. However, Stoinis was set and determined to finish the game for his side. He remained unbeaten on 70 off 65 balls as the Men in Green aced the chase in the final over with five balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, the Renegades, after losing the toss, were in a disastrous position at one stage at 33/4. Tom Cooper, Mohammad Nabi and to some extent Daniel Christian rebuilt the innings for them as they crawled past the 100-run mark. The tail-enders also managed to muster a few runs in the death overs then which helped them to post 121 runs before getting bowled out in the last over.

Stoinis once again starred with the figures of 3/19 in his four overs while the likes of Jackson Bird, Liam Plunkett and Adam Zampa picked a couple of wickets each to keep the opposition in check right through their innings.
