Riding on a staggering century from Mitchell Marsh, Perth Scorchers defeated Hobart Hurricanes by 53 runs in the match 12 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22. It was a comprehensive win for the Scorchers as Matthew Wade’s men never really looked in the hunt in their chase of 183. They lost wickets at regular intervals and lost the game eventually. Notably, Scorchers have now advanced to the top of the team standings, having won their first three fixtures this season.
Earlier in the game, Perth Scorchers won the toss and opted to bat at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Centurion from the last game, Colin Munro bagged a two-ball duck as the Scorchers looked in trouble. However, Mitchell Marsh walked in at number and he literally walked the talk. The dashing all-rounder was watchful at the start as the track had some help for the bowlers.

Moreover, the likes of Kurtis Patterson and Josh Inglis also got out cheaply. While Marsh built a 34-run stand with Ashton Tuners, the momentum again swung Hurricanes’ way as Turner was dismissed for 17. Marsh finally found a substantial partner in Laurie Evans, who looked in phenomenal touch. Both dasher played some staggering shots in end overs and put their side on command.
Marsh went onto slam a 60-ball ton as the Scorchers posted 182/5 while batting first. Chasing the daunting target, Hurricanes never really looked in the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals. D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott did get promising starts and scored 31 and 41 respectively but their efforts could only narrow down the margin of Hurricanes’ defeat.
The Matthew Wade-led side was bundled out for 129 in 19 overs as the Perth Scorchers walked away with a comprehensive 53-run win. Left-arm speedster Tymal Mills was the pick of the bowlers for Scorchers as he took three wickets in the game. Needless to mention, Marsh was adjudged the Player of the Match for his special effort with the bat.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Perth Scorchers’ fantastic win:
