Well, it seems like the teams batting first have finally cracked the code. While Afghanistan won the first T20I batting first and India won against England batting first, it was once again time for the side batting first to come out victorious. The Afghan side won the toss and took a bold call to bat first.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who had set the game on fire last time around, fell cheaply this time. However, his opening partner Usman Ghani played a fine knock of 49 runs in 34 balls. Ghani and Karim Jannat combined to form a partnership of 102 runs. They did so at a very quick rate which put their side in the driver’s seat. Karim scored a brilliant 53 off 38 balls including three boundaries and four sixes.
However, one led to another, and they both were dismissed in quick succession. It was now up to the finishers to help the side maximize on the end overs. Mohammad Nabi fulfilled this role to perfection. He scored 40 runs in just 15 balls to power his side to a total of 193 runs. Asghar Afghan and Rashid Khan too chipped in with small cameos.
Mohammad Nabi’s all-round show helps Afghanistan win the series
The Zimbabwe bowlers had a pretty bad day in office. A total of seven bowlers were used but the expected results could not be achieved. Blessing Muzarabani did end up getting two wickets but he also went for 44 runs in his four overs. The Zimbabwe batsman had to come up with an excellent display of batting to win this game.
They got off to a disastrous start as they lost a wicket on the very first ball. They kept losing wickets from time to time and were 56-5 at the end of 6.3 overs. Ryan Burl though played a fine knock of 40 runs off 29 balls. He did not get support from the other batsman and the Zimbabwe side were bowled out for 148 runs.
Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he took three wickets in the three overs he bowled. Nabi contributed with the ball as well and got two wickets to his name. A 45-run win in this game means that the Afghanistan side has secured the three-match series 2-0. The Zimbabwe team though would look to win the last match to avoid a clean sweep and also boost their morale.
