The opening match of the T10 League between Sindhis and Rajputs turned out to be a one-sided affair as Rajputs won by 10 wickets at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The Sindhis, captained by Shane Watson, turned out to be no match for their opponents as Mohammad Shahzad flayed his willow. The batter ensured that his team won the match with a staggering six overs to spare.

Watson stands tall

Rajputs, captained by Black Cap Brendon McCullum, won the toss and had no hesitation to field first. Anton Devcich and Shane Watson opened the batting and they lost wickets at regular intervals. Former Indian bowler Munaf Patel picked up Devcich to draw first blood. Windies T20I skipper Carlos Brathwaite dismissed Dawid Malan to pick up Sindhis’ second wicket.

At the other end, Watson was determined not to throw his wicket away and he scored 42 runs from 20 balls with the help of four boundaries and three sixes. Surprisingly, he was the only Sindhi batsman to cross the double figures mark. In the end, Watson’s team ended at 94 for the loss of six wickets. Munaf was arguably the standout bowler with three wickets in two overs.

Shahzad demolishes Sindhi

A target of 95 was expected to be competitive, but Shahzad threw the kitchen sink at virtually everything. He was severe on every other bowler as all the Sindhi bowlers- Mohammad Nawaz, Jofra Archer, Thisara Perera and Fawad Ahmed- went over 20 runs in their respective overs. He reached his half-century in a mere 12 deliveries as the Sindhis tried out haplessly.

The swashbuckling batter racked up 74 runs from 16 balls and his knock was laced with six boundaries and as many as eight sixes. McCullum had the best seat in the house as he was at the non-striker’s end. The Kiwi scored 21 runs from eight balls with one boundary and a couple of sixes. Quite expectantly, the Sindhis were left dumbstruck by Shahzad’s blitzkrieg.
