The ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2019-20 has shown some sparkling matches between the various franchises, but nothing might top the December 17, 2019 encounter between Khulna Tigers and Rajshahi Royals. The match was a see-saw of fortunes for both sides, until the last over of the match, in which Mushfiqur Rahim’s team had the final say.

Khulna Tigers won the toss and chose to field first in the 9th match of the BPL 2019-20. Though Liton Das (19) and Hazratullah Zazai (1) fell cheaply for 26 runs on the board in the 5th over; Shoaib Malik and Ravi Bopara took over and led the Tigers towards a big total. Malik made 87 runs in 50 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes, while Bopara made 40 unbeaten runs in 26 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes, adding 106 runs for the fourth wicket.

Andre Russell slammed 13* in 6 balls as Royals registered a fighting total of 189/4 in 20 overs. Mohammad Amir of Tigers picked 2/36, while Robbie Frylinck and Shahidul Islam picked a wicket apiece.

The chase was never going to be easy for the Tigers and it became even harder as Najmul Hossain Shanto fell for a duck and Rahmanullah Gurbaz followed him for 7 runs. Rilee Rossouw was looking to stabilize the innings and he got some valuable support at the other end from skipper Mushfiqur Rahim. South African Russouw made 42 in 35 balls with 5 fours and 1 six, while the captain continued until the end.

Shamsur Rahman added a quick 29 runs, but in the end, it was Rahim, who made a brilliant 96 in just 51 balls with 9 fours and 4 sixes to his name, ensured that the Khulna Tigers registered a thrilling victory which came in the last over. Andre Russell, the Rajshahi Royals’ captain tried nine different bowlers in order to find wickets when Rossouw and his counterpart Rahim added 72 valuable runs for the third wicket, putting them on a path of victory.
