In what was a nerve-wracking game at the Ferozeshah Kotla stadium, the Kiwis registered their first victory in this Indian tour. Earlier in the day, it was MS Dhoni who won the toss as India elected to field first. The Kiwis made 3 changes bringing in Henry, Boult and Devcich. The Indian team had an unchanged XI from their last game.
Batting first, Yadav sent Guptill’s off stump for a toss in the second ball of the game. Kane Williamson along with Tom Latham recovered Kiwis from the early slump as they together put up a 120 run partnership for the second wicket. Latham missed out on another half century.
Captain Williamson led from the front with a splendid century which had 14 boundaries and a maximum. While Taylor and Anderson couldn’t convert their starts, the New Zealand lower order was hapless as wickets kept tumbling one after the other. They failed to derive any inspiration from Williamson, as the visitors who once looked good for a 300 total were reduced to 242/9 in their 50 overs.
The Indian bowling yet again put up some clinical performances. Bumrah bowled superbly at the death as he was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/35. Mishra went for runs earlier managed to sneak in three important wickets as well. Axar and Yadav got a wicket each while Jadhav again sprung a surprise as he trapped Latham in front of the stumps.
The Indian innings was off to a slow and patchy start as Rohit got out early. The big man Kohli failed as well. Just when it seemed Rahane was looking fine at the crease, he ended up giving a catch to Corey Anderson in what seemed to be a controversial decision. Pandey followed him back to the pavilion in the very next over.

Captain MS Dhoni and Kedhar Jadhav took the initiative of putting things back in place for India. However, once both got out, India were again put into backfoot. From there on, Pandya and Axar played excellent cameos as the chase boiled up till the last over.
At the end, it’s the experience that came into account as Southee uprooted Bumrah’s stumps to guide New Zealand to a victory by 6 runs. Twitter was full of amazing reactions, right from lauding Kane Williamson to trolling Taylor, from lauding Indian bowlers to trolling Indian batsmen. Guptill’s twin strikes were compared to those of Jadhav in the first game. Here are some of the best tweets during the course of the game.
