Kerala Knights’ hopes of defending the title in the second season of the ongoing T10 League have almost vanished after losing against the Northern Warriors. They needed to win this encounter to stay in the hunt for the playoffs but the defeat has left them with depending on the results of the other matches. Nicholas Pooran was the man for the Warriors who slammed an unbeaten 43 off 18 balls to gun down the target of 102 runs only in the eighth over.

After losing the toss, the Knights got off to a great start with Paul Stirling going all guns blazing. He just ripped apart the bowling attack of the Warriors but his partner Chris Gayle struggled to even contact the ball. Despite losing their first wicket in the seventh over, the Knights had only added 68 runs thanks to some clever bowling from the likes of Andre Russell and Chris Green.

Once Gayle was sent back by the former, the skipper Eoin Morgan was expected to go bonkers to support Stirling who had by then smashed 60 off just 28 balls with three fours and five sixes. But Morgan too failed to connect the big shots and the Knights could never get going in the final three overs. In the end, they managed to score 101 runs for the loss of two wickets in 10 overs. Russell with figures of 1/13 was the most economical bowler for the Warriors.

Clinical chase

Nicholas Pooran led the chase for the Warriors at the top of the order. Though he lost Lendl Simmons early in the third over, the Caribbean left-hander continued to play his shots and most importantly found the support from Russell. Both got going easily as they attacked especially Sandeep Lamichhane who went on to concede 47 runs in his two-over spell.

Pooran and Russell finished the game in the eighth over itself achieving the target with 16 deliveries to spare to almost confirm their place in the playoffs. They are looking good to win the tournament now and would love to continue in the same vein in the near future.
