It all came down to the final day here at Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica as Pakistan were closing in their first test series win in the Caribbean. Two legendary batters of Pakistan, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan were wearing the Pakistani jersey for the last time, as all the other players wanted to present them with a farewell ‘gift’. But in this plague-struck West Indian side, who have lost even their ICC Champions Trophy place to Bangladesh, there was a certain Roston Chase who showed the cricketing hemisphere, with resilience you can tackle any difficulty.

Pakistan needed nine wickets on the last day of the test match to win the series by a margin of 2 to 1. They began the day’s play with a bang, picking up five wickets for just 86 runs. Everyone imagined the match to be a dead one, with the rest West Indian batters in-line to be bundled up soon. But Chase faced everything that came his way, and almost fought till the end to secure a tie and prevent history from its making.

On Sunday, spectators at Dominica witnessed test cricket at its very best. With more ‘exciting’ formats of the game coming up, people are starting to lose interest in tests. But who says test cannot be exciting? Pakistan supporters will be the witnesses to the fact that tests can be nail-biting too. The game was heading on towards a tie with jst one over of mandatory play left. From controversial decisions to excellent use of reviews and wickets in no-balls, the game lacked nothing.

It was a gut-wrenching drama, as Chase deserves all the praise he will receive. His knock of 101 unbeaten in 239 deliveries showed us how a test inning should be framed to be perfect in all aspects. He had his chances, but that does not take away any credit from him. But he was left stupefied on the last bowl of the 96th over, when Yasir Shah picked up the wicket of Shannon Gabriel. It was emotional scenes after that, as Shah quickly rushed towards Misbah to give him a tight hug for the last time. Emotion, agony, anger, resilience it had all. We wonder when shall we witness a test match of such high drama again.

Twitterati lauded Chase’s heroics, Yasir’s 5-wicket haul and Pakistan’s historic win.

Here is how the Twitter reacted to the day’s play:
