The Delhi Daredevils took on the Gujarat Lions at Rajkot in a one-sided encounter. Captain Zaheer Khan won the toss as DD elected to bowl first. While DD brought in JP Duminy and Rishab Pant, GL had Aaron Finch coming in for the injured DJ Bravo.
Batting first, Gujarat Lions were off to another poor start. They lost all their foreign stars i.e. Brendon McCullum, Dwayne Smith and Finch within the first 4 overs. Dinesh Karthik then scored a half century as he raced his way to 53 from 43 balls. Ravindra Jadeja also played a good cameo of 36 from 26 balls.
The Lions could only post a meagre total of 149/7 which was by no means, a great total on this pitch. Shahbaz Nadeem was the pick of the bowlers as he got 2 wickets.
Chasing 150 for a win, Delhi Daredevils were off to a flier. The openers put up a partnership of 113 runs for the first wicket as DD cruised towards the victory. Rishabh Pant was the star of the day as he smashed a brilliant 69 from 49 balls. De Kock played the anchor’s role as he scored an elegant 46 (45).
By the time the openers lost their wickets, the match was all but over for the Gujarat Lions. Both Kaushik and Jadeja got 1 wicket apiece as DD won the game by 8 wickets with 16 balls to spare. With this win, Delhi climbed to the second position on the points table while Gujarat remained at the top.
Twitter kept everyone entertained in a not so enthralling encounter between the two sides. Right from lauding Rishabh Pant to trolling DK’s wicket keeping skills, here are some of the hilarious Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
