The Delhi Daredevils have been one of the troubled sides in the IPL 2018 thus far. Along with the Rajasthan Royals, the Daredevils are seeming to be cruising out of the league slowly. They have lost their plot big time with neither of their top guns coming good in important matches. Barring one odd win against the Mumbai Indians, the doubles Ds have not tasted any success in the season thus far.
Certainly, with this backdrop, they desperately need a win under their belt. Their best shot at getting things back on track is against another struggling side, the Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB hosted the Delhi Daredevils in the second game of the super Saturday. As the things stand at the half way stage, one would admit that the visitors have messed it up big time yet again.
The Daredevils were asked to bat first after RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss. Surprisingly, the RCB new ball bowlers, Umesh Yadav and Chris Woakes, bowled exceptionally tight spells. This reflected in the final numbers of the DD openers. Jason Roy scored 5 off 16 deliveries and Gautam Gambhir perished after facing 10 balls for his 3 runs.
After the pace duo, Yuzvendra Chahal also bowled tight lines on the day. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant tried to rebuild the innings with a 75 run stand between them. While they accumulated the runs, they failed to do so in quick time. The partnership was broken after Washington Sundar dismissed Iyer on 52 (31).
After Iyer’s dismissal, Rishabh Pant started to step in the accelerator. He did not find much support from the other end but ensured that he got going all by his own. Pant smashed a quick 85 off just 48 deliveries with six fours and seven sixes in his knock. He perished in the final over of the innings.
But his efforts ensured that the Delhi Daredevils posted a respectable total of 174/5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Certainly, it is an underpar total on the flat Bengaluru track and it will need a special effort to restrict RCB in the run chase.
Here is how the fans reacted to the Delhi Daredevils innings:
Tewatia ahead of Morris and Shankar??? Since Vijay isn’t even bowling, you wonder what’s his role in the XI ? #RCBvDD

When the opposition captain is #ViratKohli and he admires your shot-making and claps, it means you are doing something right #RishabPant #RCBvDD. The best batsman in the world, Indian captain gives his thumbs-up to @RishabPant777

From 23 for 2 in 5.4 Delhi end with 174 Pant has played a blinder, 85 off 48. Powerful conventional shots and incredible improvisation. #RCBvDD #IPL2018

On a turning pitch, Chahal, the pick of the bowlers, doesn't complete his quota. Superb captaincy!!! #RCBvDD

Such was Pant's presence at the crease that Chahal, who had conceded 22 from 3 overs did not even complete his quota #RCBvDD #IPL2018

well played new young gun @RishabPant777 ??
& I think @imVkohli should need to improve his captincy skill!! ?— Wasim Akram Khan (@WasimAk55570724) April 21, 2018
Chahal, who bowled well tonight, will not complete his quota. Anderson, who didn't bowl a single ball this innings so far, bowling the final over. Some shit captaincy from Virat Kohli.
— Mohammed Ibrahim (@iBM1105) April 21, 2018
Can you fricking believe that @imVkohli din bowl out chahal on this track when he's easily been the best bowler in the team!!
— Vishwanath (@vishwanath1211) April 21, 2018
