The Delhi Daredevils have had a terrible run in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League thus far. Despite being under the leadership of an able leader like Gautam Gambhir, they have failed to get their act right on the field. While the plans do not seem to work, the franchise certainly now has hopes from their coming fixtures. The majority of the games that the Delhi Daredevils will play from now on will be the home matches for them.

This, in essence, will give them the hope that they can achieve more success at the home venues, as against all the away games that they have played thus far. With this backdrop, the stage was all set the Feroz Shah Kotla for the first home game for the Daredevils of the season. They hosted the Kings XI Punjab, a team that has been in super form this season, in the match.

Coming to the game, the hosts won the toss and opted to bowl first. Liam Plunkett came in to the side to make his IPL debut. On the other hand, the fans were shocked to see no Chris Gayle in the KXIP lineup on the day. Gayle was rested for the game, and hence, Aaron Finch opened the innings with KL Rahul in the match. Finch’s poor run in the season continued as Avesh Khan dismissed him the second over of the game on 2.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, found the run scoring tough on the Kotla track and were dismissed in their 20s on the day. Karun Nair played a crucial knock of 34 (32) to keep the innings on track. But debutante Liam Plunkett bowled exceptionally well in the middle overs to derail the KXIP progress. Plunkett returned with figures of 3/17 in the four overs that he bowled to be the pick of the bowlers for the Delhi Daredevils.

Eventually, Miller’s 19-ball 26 in the final overs came in handy for the Kings as they could only put on 143/8 in their stipulated 20 overs. It was a spirited bowling show for the hosts. Now, they need to back it up with sensible batting to be back in the competition this year.

Here is how the fans reacted to the KXIP innings:
