Quinton de Kock’s stellar run of form continued in the ongoing Mzansi Super League (MSL). The hard-hitting southpaw powered his side Cape Town Blitz to yet another emphatic win in the season. With the win, the Blitz have now almost secured a place in the finals of the season. They sit comfortably at the top of the points table with 30 points to their name.
In the match 24 of the season, the Cape Town Blitz were up against the Paarl Rocks. For the Rocks, the match was a crucial one but some tight bowling from the Blitz kept them quiet in the game. Their bowlers were not up to the mark either, and they eventually lost to the Blitz by 6 wickets.
Du Pleases stands tall
Talking about the proceedings of the match,ย Paarl Rocks opted to bat first after having won the toss. Barring skipper Faf du Plessis, no other batsman could show resilience at the crease. Du Plessis stood tall amidst the falling wickets at the other end. The veteran batsman scored 61 off 39 deliveries to see his side post 144/9 in 20 overs. For Cape Town, Nandre Burger, Dale Steyn, and Malusi Siboto scalped 2 wickets each to keep the visitors at bay.
QDK steals the show
The run chase was all about Quinton de Kock. QDK made a mockery of the opposition’s bowling line-up. He chased down the total almost singlehandedly. Right from the very first over, he took the attack to the Paarl bowlers. He was accompanied by Janneman Malan in the opening slot. While Malan was happy to play the second fiddle, QDK looked in a mood to finish things fast.
The duo added 105 for the first wicket in just 64 deliveries. Malan perished for his 24-ball 26. De Kock went ahead with his massacre mood and scored a brilliant 93 off just 47 deliveries. His knock was studded with 12 fours and 3 sixes. He was unfortunate to have missed out on his ton. Anyway, he had done his work and Cape Town Blitz were at a striking distance from the victory when he perished. The formalities were completed and the Blitz eased past the target in 15.3 overs.
Here is how the Twitter reacted to Cape Town Blitz’s victory:
