The annual cricket fiesta of Windies has begun and the fans are being served a fresh nail biting finish almost every day. As they witnessed one here at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad on Monday (Windian time). The home side, high-flying Trinbago Knight Riders vanquished the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The game was always expected to give the fans the rush of adrenaline, as the two top sides of this year’s CPL faced each other.

Winning the toss, Dwayne Bravo did what the majority of the skippers would have done after winning a toss in a T game- he chose to bowl first. The monster among men Chris Gayle was dismissed very early by the leader of the bowling pack, Sunil Narine. Mohammad Hafeez and Brandon King also could not do much, but opener Shamarh Brooks was firmly settled on the other side.

Brooks and Jonathan Carter both registered scores to give some sort of a foundation to the Patriots innings, however, the run rate was not something to be proud of. But Carlos Brathwaite and Mohammad Nabi’s quick fire innings brought the away side back into the game. The innings was finished off well by Pakistani sensation Hasan Ali with a six. After all these, St Kitts could only manage to get to 158, which was never going to be tough for the Riders to chase.

But they struck early as last night’s hero for TKR, Sunil Narine departed after scoring only 5 runs in this game. Brendon McCullum and Colin Munro tried to stabilize the innings. But things turned worse after their dismissal, as Shadab Khan also could not do much in this game. When Khan was dismissed, the Riders needed 70 runs from 6 overs and it looked like game over.

But the riders reminded the fans of the 2014’s team of the same franchise playing in IPL, Kolkata Knight Riders. A good team is one which is not dependant on any particular player but everyone can chip in with crucial contributions any day to save the game. It was the turn for wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin in this match. Ramdin, who was till then batting with a much slower run-rate, decided to put his feet on the accelerator and launch the counter attack.

He was supported well by his skipper Dwayne Bravo. But the skipper was dismissed in the 18th over, thereby swinging the needle of advantage again in the Patriots’ favour. With 29 needed from 14, Javon Searles stepped in. It was the penultimate over of the match that changed the complexion of the game, as a couple of sixes, one each from Ramdin and Searles, and a boundary from Searles meant that there can be only one winner in this match.

With only 3 needed from the last over, Hasan Ali could not do much, Ramdin finished off the match in style by hitting a boundary. The crowd, who had enough of drama and suspense for the day, now engaged themselves in drinks and dance, or simply in partying- the Trinidadian style. As their captain, Dwayne Bravo said- “every Trini and every Yard is a champion.” Twitter saw a splurge of tweets from the game.
