RCB’s power-packed batting line-up finally came good as they pulverised the Gujarat Lions bowlers on the way of their score of 213/2 after 20 overs. Chris Gayle set the stage on fire with a typical 38-ball 77, in the course of which he went past 10,000 T20 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja, the world number 1 Test bowler, was the most expensive bowler today giving away 57 runs in four overs. Raina gave him the challenge of bowling against Gayle, despite him being a left-hander. He bowled his first over inside the fielding restrictions and did a good job by conceding 9 runs off the over. It turned out to be the least expensive over of his spell as his next three overs went for 48 runs. The most expensive over was his second over when Gayle got stuck into him to take 21 runs of the over.

Jadeja was unlucky to not have Gayle’s wicket as he survived a brilliant piece of fielding in the deep by Brendon McCullum. The Kiwi star did a great job by catching the ball one-handed which was going away from him but the brim of his hat touched the boundary cushions as he tumbled after completing the catch. As a result, Gayle was awarded six runs despite the hit had fallen short a couple of yards before the boundary rope.

Jadeja’s first spell figures read 2-0-30-0. Not the start anybody was expecting of him but such is the belligerence of Chris Gayle. His last over, which was the last one of the innings as well, went for 19 runs as Kedar Jadhav smashed him for a couple of boundaries and a six over long-on.

Jadeja has looked rusty post his return from injury. He has just the solitary wicket to his name in three games and has an economy rate of 10.91 so far. He needs to improve on these numbers if Gujarat Lions want to go ahead in this tournament.
