Rohit Sharma’s poor Test form continued today after the right-handed middle order batsman was dismissed for just two runs in the first innings of the ongoing 2nd Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
There were a lot of cried for his removal from the starting XI ahead of the 2nd Test. But, Kohli and coach Kumble thought of giving him another chance to prove his worth.
However, he failed to make use of the opportunity and failed miserably. A smooth knock today would have helped him a lot to justify his place. The situation was just perfect. India was brought down to 187/4 after Neil Wagner got rid of the frustrating Pujara and break the 141 runs stand for the 5th wicket which also involved Ajinkya Rahane.
Pujara and Rahane brought back India to safety after a poor start to the match where India lost both of its openers – Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan – for single digit scores along with Kohli for just 9 runs.
Sharma should have played on with Rahane and built on the pressure on the Kiwis. But, unfortunately, he was unsuccessful and was trapped LBW from off-spinner Jeetan Patel.
Eden is his happy hunting ground. Rohit scored 177 on Test debut at this venue. It was at the same venue where struck the unimaginable 264 run knock. It was hoped that he might also be able to get his Test career back on track at the same venue. But, as of now, he has failed. Let’s see what he does in the second innings.
JUST IN: Rohit Sharma misses out on maiden Test triple ton by 298 runs only.#IndvsNZ #EdenGardens #250thTest

So what if Rohit Sharma got out scoring 2 runs. Even 2 runs are important if it helps India in winning the match. Respect our legends!

Vinod Kambli scored 1084 runs in 21 Test innings & was axed. Rohit Sharma has scored 1051 runs in 34 Test innings but would get more chances

The splendid work done by our jawans — C Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane — has been neutralised by Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. #indvsnz
