Twitter Reactions: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) buy Aaron Finch for 4.40 Cr

Since its inception, the Indian Premier League has hosted many domestic as well as international talents across the globe. The much-awaited player auction for the 13th edition of the league was held on 19th December in Kolkata. A total of 997 players registered to go under the hammer but only 338 players were shortlisted by the eight franchises.

Many eminent names were a part of the first lot to be presented at the auction. Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch, who has played a pivotal role for the Australian side, was snapped up by Royal Challenges Bangalore for a whopping sum of 4.40 crore INR. After an intense bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders, the Bangalore-based franchise were successful in acquiring the services of the right-hander. With only two overseas players in their squad- AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali- RCB were eager to snap up an overseas player in the IPL 2020 Auction.

Aaron Finch has played for a string of IPL franchises

RCB had released as many as 12 players ahead of the IPL 2020 auction. With six overseas slots to fill, Bangalore has succeeded in bolstering their batting force with the inclusion of Finch. The Australian has played 58 T20I for his national side and has scored 1878 runs at an impressive average of 38.32. Bangalore already have the likes of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal and AB de Villiers in their arsenal. With a considerable amount of experience under his belt, Finch is expected to strengthen their top-order.

Finch has played for a string of franchises in the IPL- Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions and Kings XI Punjab. RCB will be the eight franchise for which the Australian will play. Finch had set his base price as 1 Cr INR. However, in a bidding war between RCB and KKR, his price rocketed from 1 cr to 4.40 cr. RCB, who had 27.90 cr in their purse, has certainly kicked off their IPL 2020 auction campaign in style by snapping up the services of Aaron Finch.

The 33-year-old has previously played for seven different franchises in the IPL. With the addition of Finch in their squad, RCB has continued their trend of splurging money on formidable batting stalwarts. Finch, along with Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers is expected to decimate the opposition’s bowling force.
