Another day and another defeat for Karachi Kings in PSL 2022! Literally nothing has gone the Babar Azam-led side this season as they suffer their fifth defeat on the trot. Their chances of qualifying for the next stage are also diminishing with each loss. Meanwhile, Islamabad United are the latest to get the better of Kings. Skipper Shadab Khan yet again showcased his all-round prowess as the United recorded an emphatic 42–run triumph.

Earlier in the game, Islamabad United won the toss and opted to bat at the National Stadium in Karachi. The side got off to a flying start with openers Paul Stirling and Alex Hales attacking bowlers from the outset. Both dashers scored in excess of 30 and looked set to play an impact knock. However, neither of the two could convert their start. The same was the case with Colin Munro and Shadab Khan, who batted at three and four respectively.

Shadab Khan was at his all-round best

While the Kiwi swashbuckler made a run-a-ball 33, skipper Shadab scored 34 off mere 19 deliveries. Although no one from the batting order could even touch the 40-run mark, multiple contributions meant Islamabad’s innings went smooth. Asif Ali and Azam Khan played a couple of big shots as the United posted 177/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a potent total, Karachi Kings needed a substantial start which they didn’t get. Skipper Babar Azam, who slammed an unbeaten 90 in his last outing, could manage to score just eight runs. His Sharjeel Khan perished for six, putting the 2020 champions further on backfoot. Wicketkeeper-batter Sahibzada Farhan, who came out to bat at number three, did showcase fight and played some some shots.

However, he got run-out after scoring 25 off 18 deliveries. The rest of the line-up put up a disappointing show as Shadab Khan ran through the batting order. The Islamabad United skipper scalped a four-fer as the Kings were restricted to 135/9 in their allotted 20 overs, losing the game by 42 runs. Notably, Mohammad Nabi did play a valiant knock, scoring  an unbeaten 47 off just 28 deliveries but his efforts could only narrow down the margin of defeat.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Islamabad United’s defeat:
